Circus Nightclub & Bar
Post Office Counters Project

Client:
Dean Entertainments Ltd.
Budget:
£2,400,000 (Nightclub & Bar)
£450,000 (Post Office)
Completed:
May 2001 - March 2002 (Phased Handover)

The 1st Phase of the Project involved the development of the Ground Floor Level of the building originally used by the Post Office as their main City Centre depot. The brief was to create a new smaller Post Office Counters Unit to a smaller purpose designed space, to meet the challenging demands of Post Office Counters.

The Phasing of the Project necessitated the creation of the new Post Office Counters Unit to allow relocation of their current operation prior to Dean Entertainments being able to complete Phase 2 and 3 of the scheme being the Bar and Night Venue facilities.

The Night venue Phase 3 element of the project was undertaken in conjunction and overlapping with the Phase 1 commission.

The brief for the Post Office Counters Unit was developed for our Clients in association with the representatives of the GPO, who were involved with our team throughout the duration of the conversion through to completion and handover.

The design provided the end user with a purpose designed Post Office Counter space with 10 counter units.

The unit was designed to be let by our Clients on a long term lease basis, with the unit being totally segregated from the Dean Entertainment Leisure Facility. Access was provided via Meadowside with service to the building from Euclid Street to the rear.

Phase 2 involved the creation of a new Nightclub operation at 1st Floor Level, accessed from Meadowside at Ground Floor level. Upper levels and mezzanine spaces allowed for the introduction of Office Spaces, Plant Rooms and Cloakroom Facilities.

The Venue was a further development of the Dean Entertainments Leisure Estate. The project being the largest of their Club portfolio.

The scale of the Circus & Bar development was extensive, offering a pre-club bar facility at ground floor level, which combined with the Club operation provided a fully functional leisure operation.

The Club design was briefed by the Client as a multi-faceted operation and live band/act venue in association with the DJ and sound desk requirement.

The Interior Design produced a contemporary twist on the typical Nightclub interior. In keeping with the space and volumes available the bars were large scale elements with large spaces created in high volume areas subdivided into zones which interacted with one another. A VIP Bar and separate Ladies Bar were designed to be ‘get away spaces’ the latter being linked to the Ladies Powder Area.

Sharp edges, solid lines and sweeping curves ensure movement and visual impact within the Club. The end result is an award winning dynamic interior.
